Mary Pat Spencer

Co-Pastor

Mary Pat was born in Jacksonville, Florida. She graduated from Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Virginia with a double major in Religion and Sociology.

In the fall of 1968 Mary Pat entered Lexington Theological Seminary in Lexington, Kentucky. While in seminary she served as Associate Minister of the Madison Avenue Christian Church (DOC) in Covington, Kentucky. A year later she met her future husband Edd Spencer of Birmingham, Alabama.

In June 1971, they moved to Chaplin Kentucky where Edd served as a student minister. After Edd’s graduation, they moved to Mobile, Alabama where Edd served the Azalea Hills Christian Church (DOC). During these years in Mobile, Mary Pat served the Alabama/NW Florida Region as the Youth Minister.

In 1976, Mary Pat and Edd were called to serve the First Christian Church (DOC) in Little Rock, Arkansas. Edd served as Associate minister and Mary Pat as Minister of Education.

In 1983 both Mary Pat and Edd were called to serve as Co - Ministers of the Beneva Christian Church (DOC) in Sarasota, Florida. They served 21 ½ years before accepting a call in August 2004 to come back to Alabama, where they continue to serve as co-Ministers of this wonderful church, “Where the Grace of God Awaits you.”

Mary Pat loves her ministry of preaching and teaching and working with the young people. Her Hobbies include white water rafting, traveling anywhere – mostly with the young people, Mission trips and being with family and friends.

Mary Pat’s motto is “Nothing is Impossible” (All things are possible through Christ) and “Think Outside the Box.”(Think creatively and make a positive difference).

Edd and Mary Pat have two grown daughters. Holly Spencer Fuqua who is the Associate Minister at South Elkhorn Christian Church (DOC) in Lexington, Kentucky. Holly is married to Zach Fuqua who an Academic Advisor for the University of Kentucky in Lexington. They have two children Kennedy and Spencer. Their daughter Stacy is a pre-school teacher at Brookhills Church. She is married to James Cason who is an auditor at Warren, Averett, Kimbrough & Marino, LLC here in Birmingham. They have two daughters, Teanna and TyLeigh.
