Edd Spencer

Co-Pastor

     Edd was born in Atlanta, Georgia. His family moved to Birmingham where his father started Spencer Furniture Company.

He worked for his father in the business during high school. Edd attended Auburn University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a major in marketing. 

In the fall of 1969 Edd entered Lexington Theological Seminary in Lexington, Kentucky. There he met his future wife Mary Pat Kennedy. While in seminary Edd served two churches. In his first year at school he was the youth minister at Nicholasville Christian Church in Nicholasville, Kentucky. For two years he served as student minister of the Chaplin Christian Church in Chaplin, Kentucky. In the summer he served as a National Park minister in Cherokee, North Carolina for the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. This ministry included work with the Cherokee Indians and preaching at campgrounds in the Great Smokies.

He graduated from seminary with a Masters in Divinity and a major in homiletics.

After seminary Edd has served churches with his wife Mary Pat. They have shared ministry together in Azalea Hills Christian Church, Mobile, Alabama; First Christian Church, Little Rock, Arkansas; Beneva Christian Church, Sarasota, Florida; and First Christian Church, Birmingham, Alabama.

Edd has a great appreciation for outdoor ministry. He serves as the Chair of the Board for the YMCA Hargis Retreat. Where lives are changed in a beautiful natural setting.           

Edd’s hobbies include backpacking on the Appalachian Trail, watching sports, jogging, and sharing magic shows with children. His motto is “Life is a piece of cake.”

Edd and Mary Pat have two grown daughters and four grandchildren. His oldest daughter Holly serves as Associate Minister of the South Elkhorn Christian Church in Lexington, Kentucky. His youngest daughter Stacy serves as a Preschool Teacher at Brookhills Church in Birmingham, Alabama.

Edd and Mary Pat have served First Christian Church as Co-Pastors for seven years.
