Music Ministries

First Christian Church has several opportunities to participate in the music ministry. Our Music Minister is Jan Watts.  Our Pianist/Organist is David Brasher.

Chancel Choir – meets for rehearsal at 6:30 pm on Wednesday evenings. Everyone who loves to sing is encouraged to participate. The choir sings a variety of music, including classical, spiritual, contemporary, and seasonal.  The Chancel Choir has at least two full length musical cantatas each year at Easter and Christmas. Solo performance opportunities are available.

Summer 2009 Musical – This year our summer musical was made up of songs and dances of the 20th century called “20th Century Celebration”. We invited our friends and neighbors to participate with us in this rendition of the popular music of the 20th century from “By The Light of The Silvery Moon” in the early 1900s through the mid-50s with Elvis and the mid-80s with Michael Jackson up to the late 90s with “I Believe I Can Fly”. The show was a tremendous success.

The Grace Notes - our girls’ vocal group for sixth grade and up - is held on Wednesday evenings at 5:30 pm before choir rehearsal.  This is part of our music program and there is no charge involved.  Solo performance opportunities are available. This group is scheduled during the school year.

Praise Kids - our children's music program - meets at 5:45 pm on Sunday evenings in conjunction with our children and youth programs.  This group is open to kids from four years old through fifth grade.  The Praise Kids perform at least twice a year in our worship services or fellowship events.

Handbell Choir - meets during the school year for rehearsal on Sunday afternoons.  The Handbell Choir participates in worship and on special occasions. They are also available to perform at retirement centers and nursing homes.

Handbell Ensemble - meets on Sunday afternoons after bell choir and plays with the Chancel Choir during worship on many occasions.

Instrumental and Vocal Ensembles - Several opportunities exist for both instrumental and vocal ensembles to participate in worship and on special occasions. Be creative!  The Instrumental group is in the process of organizing.
