Evangelism
The Evangelism Mission develops programs to greet, meet, and make welcome all visitors to First Christian Church.
The primary responsibilities of the mission are in locating prospective members, explaining church activities and beliefs, recording visitor attendance and encouraging visitors to become members of First Christian Church.
This mission consists of a team of greeters who welcome each visitor as they arrive and share with them a small gift from our church. Each visitor is encouraged to sign our guest book and to wear a name tag if they wish.
In addition, letters are sent to our first time visitors thanking them for attending our service. Upon request our visitors are also called by phone and appointments are set up with our pastor and elder for a home visit.
The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) affirms Jesus as the Son of the Living God and a Savior offering Grace to all of God’s Children. Beliefs that are central to our faith include:
OPEN COMMUNION: the Lord’s Supper is open to all believers and is celebrated in worship each Sunday.
BAPTISM BY IMMERSION: Baptism makes possible a new life of trust in God. Disciples generally practice baptism by immersion, but honor other baptism traditions as well.
IMPORTANCE OF CHURCH UNITY: All Christians should cooperate in ministry and affirm each other as brother and sisters in Christ.
MINISTRY OF ALL BELEIVERS: Clergy as well as lay persons lead worship, direct service and nurture spiritual growth.
FREEDOM OF BELIEF: Disciples are called around the one essential of faith- belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Diversity is respected and each person is encouraged to seek their own understanding of God’s Word guided by the Holy Spirit, study and prayer.
You are encouraged to visit us at First Christian Church, “Where the Grace of God awaits you!”
