“God's expression of Jesus is complete, but our understanding is incomplete. God has made The Holy Spirit available to live within us to guide us into all the truth in Jesus as we are able to receive it.”
Therefore, the role of Elders at First Christian Church of Birmingham is spiritual formation, which is an experience with God that results in spiritual growth. Our goal as Elder’s is to become agents of spiritual change.
We follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, found in God’s Holy Word. We have no specific doctrine other than the Holy Word, prayer, and discernment. We embrace and accept all who seek to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ.
As Elders, we meet every second Monday to study and pray together and to look after the needs of our congregation. In addition, each Sunday Elders offer meditation and prayer in celebration of the Lord’s Supper where all are welcome .Our Elders also serve as teachers, counsel those in need, offer encouragement, visit the sick, visit prospective members, share communion with shut-ins, and perform pastoral duties when required.
The Apostle Paul directed his ministerial protégé to “rekindle the gift of God that is within you.” We as Elders welcome the opportunity to share the gifts that God has given us with not only those in this congregation, but where we are lead to serve.
