Crop Walk

As your congregational representative to the Church World Service (CWS) 5K Walk on April 10th, I am asking for your support in raising money. Each walker is asked to raise $100. We have been involved with this event for 5 years. Due to the recent tragic events around the world, our participation is even more important this year. I will have 20 collection envelopes available until April 10th. Please see me before and after church to sign up to walk or to make a donation. We have a safe website available for on-line giving: bhamcropwalk.org. We were recognized as the congregation to raise the most money on the web last year...let's do it again! Twenty-five percent of all monies go to Greater Birmingham Ministries. The rest is distributed throughout the USA and into 67 other countries. CWS and the CROP Hunger Walk are non-denominational. Their operating expenses are paid by donations from businesses, churches, individuals and corporations. One- hundred percent of funds from the walks are used for the purchase of food. Your help is urgently needed.       Blessings, Sharon Orazine

Week of Compassion

WEEK OF COMPASSION 2011 SHARING RESOURCES, CHANGING LIVES, BRINGING JOY   CAN 35 SECONDS CHANGE YOUR LIFE? That’s how long the earthquake took to devastate Haiti. After one year, Haitians still live in tent cities and cholera has ravaged the people. Headlines from the past year identify many communities that have been changed: Tennessee Floods Affect First Christian Families…Oil Spill Creates Economic Havoc In Alabama and Northwest Florida…Tornado Hits Alabama…Hurricane Alex Strikes Texas… Australian Flood The Size of France and Germany Combined Washes Away Food Crops and Entire Communities…20,000 Homeless, 840 People Die in Catastrophic Floods, Mudslides, and Heavy Rains in Brazil… Today’s headlines continue to reveal life changing events, from natural disasters to political revolutions. Winter storms have rocked much of the United States over the last few weeks; ice and snow have not only affected areas that are accustomed to severe winter weather, but people in the South have felt this winter’s fury. Because of your faithful partnership and support, we provided more than 1000 blankets to some vulnerable populations. Along with blankets, Church World Service provides other material needs to folks in need during disasters large and small. The needs of God’s people continue, and we are called to “Carry each other’s burdens” (Gal. 6:2). For over 65 years, following in Jesus’ footsteps, we have given our hard-earned resources through Week of Compassion to bring help and blessing to hurting lives. Sharing invites God more fully into our lives. As we reach out in love, we open the way for God to reach more deeply into us. Sharing will joyfully transform you as you help transform the world. You may support this essential mission of the church by giving to our Week of Compassion offering on March 6 and March 13. Our goal this year is $3500, or $35 per church family. Perhaps you or someone you know has been affected by a natural or manmade disaster; or perhaps you and your loved ones have been lucky. Please give generously to the Week of Compassion, and help us “carry each other’s burdens”?   Outreach Mission
