Children's Worship and Wonder
Children’s Worship and Wonder now has 9 new stories and one new parable to add to our Sunday morning worship! Our children are becoming very familiar with the well loved stories they have heard since Worship and Wonder began.
Beginning June 26, 2011 we will be introducing new stories about Jesus’ ministry and the parable of the Prodigal Son. We also have some books about the stories they have learned. These are available for the children to read during their wondering time in worship. Many thanks to the Library Women who have made available some extra shelf space for these additions. The children’s offering collected each Sunday will be designated to help with the tornado relief. FCC is truly blessed by this wonderful ministry. If you know of children ages 4 – 4th grade please invite them.

Sacred Harp Singing Convention
We celebrate our fourth year to host the National Sacred Harp Singing Convention at our church on June 16-18. Singers will come from many states: Maine to California, Florida to Oregon, and also from England and Canada. There will be 300 singers and guests gathered in our beautiful sanctuary each day praising God with their special music.
We are all invited to come and enjoy this event. The music will begin each day at 9:30 am and conclude at 2:30 pm. There is a break for lunch with great southern dishes of fried chicken and delicious vegetables. So make your plans to be at the church June 16- 18 for Sacred Harp Music.

A quiet walk
Saturday, June 11 at 7:00am Edd will take a group hiking on a beautiful trail along a stream in Shelby County. The trail is located near Highland Lakes and is only 10 miles from the church. The hike will be two miles with scenes of mountain laurel and a pretty stream for wading. After the hike the group will have brunch at International House of Pancakes. Everyone will be home before noon so that afternoon “honey do’s” can be done. Please bring wading shoes for a walk in the stream and an appetite for a quiet walk in God’s natural sanctuary.

Camp High Hopes 2011
In all the hustle and bustle of our other outreach for the tornado victims, please remember those who need us on a continuing basis. These special needs adults are a part of First Christian Church tradition. They are part of our family.
This year, we will be conducting camp on a different schedule. We will start the camp at 5:00 pm on Friday, June 3. Gerald will cook ribs and turkey, which we will be serving with all the fixings, around 6:00 pm. Campers will be checked in between 5:00 pm and 7:30 pm as time permits. At 7:30 pm, we will have our Camp High Hopes live band playing dance music.
We will need a crew of about 10 to 15 counselors to check in campers, to chaperon the dance, and to get the campers to bed.
On Saturday June 4, we will have a full day of activities, starting with breakfast at 8:00 am and ending between 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm.
We will need a full complement of counselors for Saturday to ensure camper safety.
Please consider Camp High Hopes as your opportunity for personal outreach.
Contact Jim Langley to sign up.
