CROP Walk
CROPWALK: This is an event to heighten awareness of world hunger. We have participated for the last 4 years by providing a team of walkers who raised money for donations and last year had volunteers representing our congregation helping with logistics. We provided bottled water, apples for snacks and people to mark and direct the 5K route. 100 percent of money raised by this walk goes to purchase food. 25% of locally raised funds stay in Birmingham and are used by Greater Birmingham Ministries. 75% goes to many different countries throughout the world. This is another way to "reach out to the ends of the earth". Think about joining us again when we have CROPWALK 2010, April 18th.
In case you need reminding, CROP stands for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty. Each year, we hold a 5-K walk to raise money and awareness for poverty relief. While the money we raised last year was a bit down because of the economy, in the previous year, we raised about $20,000. This year, we are shooting for $30,000. The more money we raise, the more good we can do. So we hope you will plan to join us and get some new people involved as well.2010 Regional Assembly
The 2010 Regional Assembly of the Christian Church (DOC) in Al/NW Florida will be held at First Christian Church, Decatur, on April 23-25.
The 2010 Regional Assembly will focus on the theme, “..to the Ends of the Earth.” The assembly will emphasize the mandate from Christ, as found in Acts 1:8, for his disciples to continue his work of proclaiming the good news to the ends of the earth.
We will be joined by several partners representing ministries that are taking the Disciples witness to the ends of the earth. These partners include: the Rev. Amy Gopp, the Rev. Sandra Gourder, and the Rev. Felix Ortiz.
