Purpose of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Birmingham, Alabama
The purpose of our Church shall be as revealed in the New Testament to win people to faith in Christ Jesus; to commit them actively to the Church; to help them grow in the grace and knowledge of Christ that increasingly they may understand to do His will; to work for the unity of all Christians and with them engage in the common task of establishing the Kingdom of God.
Church Governance
First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Birmingham, Alabama is governed by our congregation through members elected to our Missions Council. The Missions Council is a body of 22 members of the congregation consisting of the following:

Moderator Elect (who automatically serves the next year as Moderator)

Chair of Trustees
Chair of Elders
Chair of Diaconate
Chair – Administration Mission
Chair – Education Mission
Chair – Evangelism

Other Organizations Within The Church
Board Of Trustees
The Trustees serve as the legal agents of the Church in all business matters, under the direction of the Missions Council and subject to the approval of the congregation, and perform such duties as are required by this Constitution, Bylaws, Standing Rules, and the State of Alabama.
Board Of Elders
The Board of Elders, along with the Ministers, represents the spiritual leadership of the Church. They promote the growth and welfare of the Church, give spiritual oversight to members with respect to regular attendance at the Lord’s Supper; visitation of the sick; give thoughtful consideration to policies of the Church that will enable it to fulfill is complete mission; encourage by word and example the missionary, evangelistic, education, and stewardship responsibilities of the church; serve at the Lord’s Table and perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Board of Deacons
The Board of Deacons cooperate with the ministers and elders in promoting the growth and welfare of the Church, rendering special service in the business affairs and program activities of the Church, and perform such other duties as may be assigned.
